Deafening silence of the shepherds on the Terri Schiavo case

Reactions
Results from a survey of the websites of the US Catholic Dioceses.

Only one quarter (about 40) make any reference to the Terri Schiavo case. Some Dioceses even seem to think that euthanasia is a question open for discussion for Catholics.

I have searched in the Bishop's personal pages and Diocesan news releases and newsletters. If this failed, I used google to search the whole website. In one case, the Diocesan home page highlighted a golf tournament sponsored by the bishop and in another a quilt exhibition in the presence of the bishop. Very few Bishops (around 15 of about 170) have said anything directly on the matter.

And has the Catholic Church failed Terri?

Precisely. Michael Schiavo's unrepentent adultery means that he no longer loves his wife, and should in no circumstances be considered a guardian of her interests.

is psychologically sick: "The lawyer crusading to let Terri Schiavo die once 'soulspoke' to another woman in a persistent vegetative state. And lawyer George Felos believes the woman replied."

Terry Schiavo - fighting for her life

I am no lawyer but this is wrong. Given the affidavits, as, at least, a matter of precaution (which environmentalists so often talk about but never apply to humanity itself) the judge should rule the other way.

Where is America Going?

An excellent article: "As I write, we watch as not a single judge or court in this land, including the U.S. Supreme Court will step forward in defense of innocent life. Judge after judge has ruled in favor of denying an innocent human being a drink of life sustaining water." One can add, as he writes, it is also Good Friday. And the wretched lawyer for Michael Schiavo claimed that as it was Easter, Terri Schiavo ought to be able to die in peace. What is peaceful about being murdered by your husband? Murder is not a private matter.

One correspondent at Uexpress claims what she calls the "far" right is using Terri Schiavo to further its political agenda. What she calls the far right are ordinary people revolted at death by starvation. She obviously does not know her history; it was the genuinely far right in the German Nazi party that discovered the use of euthanasia to cover for murder and the massacre of the innocent.

The Great Intercessions at the Mass of the Presanctified. Among other prayers:

Let us pray also for our most holy Father Pope John Paul that our Lord and God, who chose him to the order of the Episcopate, may keep him in health and safety for His holy Church to govern the holy people of God.

Let us pray. Let us kneel. Arise.

Almighty and everlasting God, by whose judgment all things are established, mercifully regard our prayers, and in Thy goodness preserve the Bishop chosen for us: that the Christian people who are ruled by Thine authority, may under so great a Pontiff, be increased in the merits of their faith. Through our Lord... R. Amen.

Terri Schiavo

The truth must be told

And in contrast, a long article on nurses who collaborated with the Nazi euthanasia programme.

And the 1941 sermon of Bishop Clemens Count von Galen against the Nazi euthanasia programme. And where today is the thunder from the pulpit of each and every bishop in America on the Schiavo case? Unlike in Germany in 1941, they have no fear of arrest.

Now see also later post "The Deafening Silence of the Shepherds" concerning the American bishops on the Terri Schiavo case.

This is the Pilgrimage Church dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows on Pöstlingberg overlooking Linz. Hitler wanted to demolish it and replace it with a pantheist temple but the war came to an end too soon for this wicked plan to be put into place. Fifty years later, the Ursuline Church in the centre of Linz has a shrine to the memory of Judas. This is also wicked and no subsitute for the Catholic religion.  Posted by Hello

Hopefully this includes the Shrine to Judas. Action must be taken in this case or it will be an excuse for others to abuse the liturgy and devotions of the Catholic Church.
