St. Ignatius Loyola

Today is his Feastday and the 450th Anniversary of his death.

See The Life of St. Ignatius Loyola

Sadly modern Jesuits no longer follow the architectural standards that could be seen in every main town of Europe in the counter-reformation.

For comparison, a selection of Jesuit Chapels in Ireland.

We fly to Maundy Thursday in Goa. A Jesuit sits on the right.

You guessed it. JESUITS!

And how they say Mass.

Compare How Jesuits pray!

It used to be that Jesuits do what the Pope demands, now they now do what their swami says.

And this is not what the Pope intended when he made St Ignatius the Patron Saint of Retreats.

Nor did St Ignatius who organised the Jesuits on military lines to evangelise the whole world wish them to become peace activists who cannot distinguish Catholicism from other religions.

Of all orders, the Jesuits are the most decadent and in recent years they have certainly had some competition in this department.

Once saw a Jesuit take a call on a mobile while he was concelebrating Mass. The five Jesuits of my family would not recognise the modern order as the same as thta founded by St Ignatius.

Still in Vigil

Hoping all is well.

We are still in vigil at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church
in East Boston, Massachussetts.

21 Months. We want to speak to Cardinal Sean O'Malley,
but they never seem to receive our messages or he
has gone to Rome. One excuse after another.

When the statue of Our Lady of Mt Carmel fell
backwards and thudded to the floor at the Last Mass.
We knew it was a sign from Our Lady that she does
NOT want to leave her home. We promised Our Lady
we will honor her wish as long as it takes to re-open
our magnificent Church.

On July16th Our Lady's Feast Day we had a
procession from the Church to the Garden
where we recited the Rosary, Litany and hymns
We also had someone play the trumpet.
Our Lady was surrounded by the most
beautiful array of flowers.

Many people visited during the day to honor
Our Lady.

We recite the Rosary at 7:00p.m. seven days
a week.

Take care,

Roman Miscellany

written by an English Catholic Priest who attended Exeter College, Oxford, like myself. St Ralph Sherwin, proto-martyr of the Venerable English and Welsh College in Rome was a fellow of the College.

St Edmund Campion was martyred with St Ralph Sherwin

An Anglican minister came forward and asked St Edmund to pray with him, but he said: "You and I are not one in religion, wherefore I pray you, content yourself. I bar none of prayer, only I desire them that are of the household of the Faith to pray with me, and in my agony to say one Creed." He then proceeded to pray the Nicene Creed in Latin.

As the cart was drawn away, Campion uttered his last words: "I die a perfect Catholic." Here is his Challenge to the Privy Council of England.

The Anglicans have brought to an end the last vestiges of the claims of Exeter College over the centuries to be the most conservative, if not also most Catholic, colleges in Oxford by appointing a vicaress as college chaplain. No good will come of it, not that much good has ever come from the Church of England.

The Chapel of Exeter was based on Ste Chapelle in Paris (which contained the Holy Crown of Thorns before the French Revolution). The Church of England can copy all she likes (buildings, books, ritual, vestments), but they do not save souls.

Our Lady of Covadonga, Asturias, Spain

Situated in the beautiful landscape of the Picos de Europa National Park, this sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary is a lighthouse to the Faithful. Masses are still given in the cavern where the Virgin Mary appeared in 722 to the army of Don Pelayo. It is said that thanks to divine intervention, the consequent battle fell in favour of the Christian army, the first victory against the Islamic invaders. Shortly afterwards, Don Pelayo became the first Spanish King and the reconquest of the peninsula by Christian forces began, slowly but inexorably.

The message is never to despair. The Muslim sources claim that they were defeated by just 30 men.

Through Mary, Jesus came from heaven to earth, that we through Mary can go from earth to heaven!

Spot the Difference

Priests are more withered and possess thorns, when compared to monks and nuns in the promotional materal for vocations in the Diocese of Linz.

Will this Diocese ever get anything right?

See previous attempts at promoting religious life and Church goes Bananas and Church goes bananas again!

Vere Dominus est in loco isto

A protestant once came with a friend of ours to visit us in Austria. He complained bitterly about not only the numbers of Churches he had to see, but also about the Catholic Church itself.

Our last visit of the day was the Abbey of Kremsmunster. As we entered the main courtyard, he pointed up to the Latin inscription. What does it mean?

"Indeed the Lord is in this place". Genesis 28:16

A silence descended and no more complaints were heard again.

The verse goes on " ego nesciebam......and I knew it not."

The full text of Jacob's Dream can be found here.

Small redesign

I have altered the look to ensure that the pictures and text are more clearly consistently presented. Feedback welcome!

Where's the fire?

Holy Church

Firmly I believe and truly
God is Three, and God is One;
And I next acknowledge duly
Manhood taken by the Son.

And I trust and hope most fully
In that Manhood crucified;
And each thought and deed unruly
Do to death, as He has died.

Simply to His grace and wholly
Light and life and strength belong,
And I love supremely, solely,
Him the holy, Him the strong.

And I hold in veneration,
For the love of Him alone,
Holy Church as His creation,
And her teachings are His own.

And I take with joy whatever
Now besets me, pain or fear,
And with a strong will I sever
All the ties which bind me here.

Adoration aye be given,
With and through the angelic host,
To the God of earth and Heaven,
Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

In America, the Wizard of Oz

In Europe, Snow White and Catholic Church.

In the era of the Church fathers, Catholic belief was removed from pagan mythology. Now in a desperate and failed attempt to evangelise, modern fairy tales are mixed with Catholic truth. Unlike here, a superb pantomine put on by a Catholic Church in Lancashire, North of England.

Producing hell on earth, a "Find Fight Follow" Mass which passes for pastoral care of young people in Austria. See No escape from the past.
