Cardinal praises people in mutually caring homosexual partnerships

The Berlin Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki has once again made a strong call for respect for people in same-sex partnerships. "Wherever people are there for each other, this deserves recognition," the archbishop says in an interview to the newspaper "Frankfurter Rundschau" (Monday). At the same time, he referred to Catholic doctrine. This has "clear and unambiguously set down, that homosexual acts 'in themselves are not in order', violate the natural law and therefore in the conviction of our belief cannot be approved." On that, he also makes "no compromise". Further polarization of the issue would be wrong, according to Woelki. "In fact, already my words in Mannheim have immediately called the critics into action," he said, referring to his similarly worded statements at the Mannheim Catholic Congress last May. Particularly on the Internet, there were the "usual polemical attacks" said Woelki.
